Residential and Commercial Lawn Maintenance

As with anything else, achieving a healthy balance in your residential lawn or commercial lawn is a worthwhile and possible goal. The challenge is identifying what nutrients your soil might be lacking and where improvements can be made. That’s why one of the initial lawn care services you’ll receive is a lawn soil test. By testing the soil for deficiencies in macronutrients (namely nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium), our experts will be able to help you implement strategies that will ensure your lawn is receiving the right type and amount of the different fertilizer components it needs to stay vibrant, lush and healthy. We offer five different services as it pertains to lawn maintenance:

Lawn Feeding and Fertilization

Different types of grass, as with all plants, need different types of nutrients. As horticulturally trained professionals, we have the ability and technology to identify what your landscape needs – and the right time to provide it – in order to perform photosynthesis, which is the overall goal for ensuring your yard maintains its grandeur.

Lawn Mowing

Mowing is a tried and true lawn maintenance method that prevents your grass from flowering and sprouting seed heads, and keeps your lawn in a healthy, perpetual state of growth. Although a regular practice, there are actually improper techniques to manicuring your lawn, and executing these impudences routinely opens your yard up to potential infections by diseases or infestations by pests. At Atlanta Lawn Care Services, we thoroughly clean and upkeep our machinery so that we can deliver exceptional quality to you at little to no risk.

Trimming and Edging

For an easy and foolproof way to add that finished and manicured touch to your lawn, look no further than Atlanta Lawn Care Services for your trimming and edging needs. There are slight differences in each service: Edging is vertical cut, whereas trimming is a horizontal cut. Moreover, edgers are pieces of equipment that – like a lawn mower blade – uses short, metal blades which are placed perpendicular to the ground for maximum efficiency. In comparison, trimmers run parallel to the ground, typically depending on a heavy type of nylon string rotating in a circular motion for ideal performance.

Lawn Aeration

Your lawn and the soil underneath it need to breathe. Lawn aeration is a wonderful and widely-used way to not only reduce soil compaction, but to allow air, water and nutrients to reach the grass roots. Our experts have perfected the art of perforating your soil in order to produce a deeply rooted, stronger and healthier lawn. Although it’s a service not every homeowner or commercial property needs, you should strongly consider aerating your lawn if: it’s heavily used; soil compaction happens more frequently and easily due in part to regular foot traffic.

If you have children and/or pets running around your yard daily, this is a good service option to consider. Your lawn was created as part of a newly constructed home. Construction traffic could’ve easily compacted the grass that was placed on the subsoil, and it’s not uncommon for the topsoil to have been stripped or buried. You believe your lawn could have a thatch problem, which it might if it dries out effortlessly and feels spongy. If you remove a four-inch slice of your lawn and see a thatch layer greater than half of an inch, aerating should be highly considered. Soil layering exists, which means a finer texture soil (which comes with imported sod) is layered over already established, coarser soil. Layering disrupts drainage since finer- textured soil holds retains water. Aerating breaks up layering, which if left unattended, could lead to compacting and poor root development.

Lawn aeration should be considered during the growing season. That’s when grass heals and starts growing rapidly.

Lawn Winterizing

Not all grass is created equal. Some grasses grow best in 65-75 degree weather and are considered cool season grasses, while others are labeled as warm season grasses. Cool season grasses benefit the most from winterization, which is the process of fertilizing the lawn and giving it nitrogen in order to survive the winter months successfully. The formula for winterizing lawns isn’t the same on each property; there are plenty of contributing factors, and our team of experts are able to walk you through them.

Landscape Design and Installation

If you could have the landscape of your dreams, what would that space consist of? Is it a place to rest, relax, and tan? Perhaps it’s a place to entertain and grill? Maybe you’re interested in a place to unwind, where you can read, and cultivate your own gardening and food growing hub? No matter what your desire and budget, the staff at Atlanta Lawn Care Services can work with you in order to help you achieve the outdoor space of your dreams.

We help you to precisely pre-plan the landscape

Whether we’re starting from scratch, or renovating an existing landscape, we like to do things right the first time. This involves tedious planning and a thorough understanding of different factors like what you like, what level of maintenance you are capable of, and what grows best with the type of soil and land formats on the property, among other factors.

We help you achieve your dream lawn in a number of different ways, including: soil amendment – which are materials that you add to soil to better its physical and/or chemical characteristics, including permeability and water retention – drainage, irrigation system and other factors like garden lights and what “hardscape” objects you may be interested in incorporating into your space; these would be things like pools, patios, pathways, walls, bridges, sculptures, etc.

We know what goes into a successful and well-designed garden space

A well-executed landscape design exudes balance across many different facets. Not only does the space promote harmony; it exemplifies unity as well. Certainly it’s proportional, but it’s also scaled. There’s as much light as there is shade to counteract. And mass is just as much a contributor as space. It’s also important to note the textures, patterns and colors you’re going for, as these are all factors for a successfully cohesive outdoor space.

Seasonal Color Programs

A garden is not just any run-of-the-mill purchase; it’s an investment. For that reason, the dimensions, style and makeup of a space are crucial design elements. Our experts are horticulturally trained, and they know how to plan a space accordingly, including what plants would and wouldn’t work the best for you and/or your household.

Plant types are grouped according to their lifespan:

• Annuals, as they are named based on the Latin word “annus,” meaning “year,” are plants that live for a year or perhaps less. They are normally grown from seeds, and usually flower for only 3 or 4 months. Their life cycle dictates that they pretty much grow, flower, make more seeds, and then die within a year.

• Biennials can be a few different things: They can be plants that last two years, plants that take two years to grow from seed to blooming to then die, or they can be seasonally flowering plants that only flower in the second year of planting. The term “biennial” is derived from the Latin “biennis,” meaning “two years.”

• Perennials usually take two years until they are old enough to bloom. From the Latin “perennis,” meaning “many years,” these are the flowering plants that last the longest and continue flowering. Unlike other plants, there is no need to replant perennials year after year.

Additionally, woody plants, also known as shrubs, are perennial plants that are smaller than trees with short stems and have branches close to the ground. There are two different types of shrubs: flowering and ornamental.

    • Flowering shrubs will flower the majority of the year, and have a bushy appearance. They are a long-living and low maintenance piece for any garden, and appeal to most gardeners because they can yield foilage, fruit and/or flowers year-round.
    • Ornamental shrubs, on the other hand, don’t flower. They are highly regarded for their foilage, their shapes and their ornamental look. There’s much to be said about the versatility of these shrubs, as they can be trimmed to various shapes and sizes.

When you call us for a free estimate, we’ll be able to determine what your landscape could benefit the most from, depending on whether you’d like to renovate your yard or start from scratch. We’ll be able to come up with a seasonal color program that best suits your interests and your property.

Preventative Maintenance

How do we determine a healthy lawn?

A healthy lawn is the first line of defense against any disease outbreaks, pests, or weeds. The right type – and amount of – maintenance, hydration and nutrition is the key, customizable formula that any lawn needs in order to remain vibrant and lush. A simple way of checking your lawn for possible damages or impending problems is to do a quick turf test. When you click or call for a free estimate, we could gladly perform this test for you as well. We would slice a chunk of turf and soil in your lawn in order to perform the inspection and identify your potential trouble spots. It’s essential to assess every layer of your lawn because problems can arise from anywhere: We’ll look at the top growth (Are the blades of your grass yellowing or ragged?), then inspect the base of the plants (Does there appear to be any thatch buildup?), and finally look below the surface (Is the soil texture too dense or loose? Is the grass growing deeply and is the root system deep and interconnecting?).

Once we complete the inspection, we can move forward on what measures you can take to ensure you get the best out of your lawn for the longest amount of time possible. We offer four different preventative maintenance services:

Fighting Weeds

Labeled by lifespan in the same way as other plants, there are plenty of species of weed that could take over your yard if it’s not given the right amount of attention or the proper solution. The trick is to catch the seeds and seedlings when they’re the most vulnerable. In addition, proper lawn care (like a regular fertilizing schedule), mowing higher, and watering deeply and infrequently are all solid strategies when applied together to combat weeds.

Defeating Harmful Insects and Pests

Some of the symptoms of animal infestation could parallel those of lawn diseases, so it’s crucial to identify what the damages are and why they’re happening before you can make the most beneficial move on your lawn. If patches of your grass appear wilting, discolored or dying, it could very easily be either insects or lawn diseases; however, bite marks on the grass, visible insects, thin roots, missing roots and holes in the soil all suggest that insects or pests are behind this. Pest control is easy and effective when pests are correctly identified, as not all insects have the same life cycles or damage the lawn in the same way.

Dealing with Lawn Diseases

It may not be the easiest thing in the world to identify why dead or discolored areas may creep and disparage the vitality of your lawn, but simply put, even the healthiest lawn could create the conditions in which disease spores can float across in the air or hide deep in your soil, and multiply. Fighting back is easy, albeit meticulous, and our experts are well-versed in eliminating these issues when we see them. There are no surprises for us here.

Improving Site Conditions

Improvements shouldn’t necessarily be made because a problem is being endured. Revitalizing your lawn is a fantastic idea regardless of the nature of it; sometimes the quickest and most preventative actions are the ones that are taken when there are no issues whatsoever. Quick improvements include aerating your lawn, watering it deeply and infrequently, and mowing the lawn correctly. For those and other ways to improve, we’re available to assess, guide and perform.
